A Great War M.C. group of four awarded to Major A.P.J. Radcliffe, Royal Artillery, who died from wounds received whilst winning his M.C.

M.C., London Gazette, 20 June, 1917. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He went forward under heavy fire and established an OP. Although wounded shortly after, he remained at his post, continuing to direct the fire of his battery and sending valuable information as to the situation throughout the day.'

Radcliffe was mentioned in despatches by General Haig London Gazette 4th January, 1917. He never recovered from his wounds and died on 18th August, 1917, with the acting rank of Major.

Arthur Philip Joseph Radcliffe was born on 14 January, 1896, only son of Lt. Colonel Philip John Joseph Radcliffe, and grandson of Sir Joseph Radcliffe, 3rd Baronet of Rudding Park, Harrogate.
