Nine ships refers to the number of French ships sunk or taken at the Battle of the Nile, one of the most complete naval victories by any nation in modern history. It was arguably a more important victory than Trafalgar, and was so decisive that it effectively sealed British dominance in the Mediterranean for several generations.
