Boer War Chocolate Tin, in silver, Hallmarks for ‘Sheffield 1899’, containing a printed card ‘This silver box is one of eleven made by Barringer, Wallis & Manners Ltd. in 1900, as a memento of the order for 40,000 chocolate tins of a similar design supplied by them in accordance with the Queen’s order to form part of her New Years gift to the troops in South Africa engaged in the war with the Transvaal and the Orange Free State. One of the eleven boxes referred to was presented by Barringer, Wallis & Manners Ltd. to the Queen and graciously accepted by her’, the card torn and in a distressed condition, the paintwork to the lid of the box badly degraded, the box itself in very good condition and extremely rare £200-250
