M.C. London Gazette 25 November 1916: ‘For conspicuous gallantry in action. He led his platoon with great courage and initiative. Later, although wounded, he remained at his post. Previously he captured an enemy machine-gun himself.’
Lieutenant Allen Claude Cooper was killed in action on 7 June 1917, the opening day of the battle of Messines Ridge. He is commemorated by name on the Messines Ridge (N.Z.) Memorial.
