A Medieval gold posy ring, late 12th century, with rectangular section hoop, the exterior engraved with Roman/Lombardic lettering in thirteen concave rectangular panels: ‘+.ET.IB.II:VV.N:G:I:TAMOR’, finely engraved laddering present in all the lettering., the inscription has been partially deciphered and may read “And to you I love you”, with plain interior, ring size approximately P. £2,400-£3,000
This ring was discovered by a detectorist at Bradfield, Essex in 2022. Bradfield, in 1086, had a recorded population of just 22 households. This ring has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, ref: ESS-B9A945, and disclaimed as Treasure, ref: 2022-T770.
