I.D.S.M., London Gazette,16 November, 1944. Awarded for an action at Khudei Khunou in the Naga Hills to the south of the Imphal plain. 'On 12 May 1944 at KHUDEI KHUNOU HavildarArjun Singh commanded a platoon. His coy was in support of a coy attacking a strongly held Jap position. When the leading coy approached within 100 yards the Japanese opened fire with L.M.G., discharger cup and M.M.Gs.The leading coy was held up. Under heavy enemy fire Hav. Arjun Singh cooly formed his men up and then lead them forward to assault the Jap position. Under this Havildar's inspiring leadership his platoon, undismayed by the check given to the leading coy and by their own losses, charged home driving the Japs our of their positions and helping secure the key of the Jap position. The Havildar showed great courage and exceptional powers of leadership.'
