Italy, Pax of the Pieta, a 16th century uniface cast bronze plaque by an unknown North Italian master, half-length figure of Christ against a curtain, within a frame of two squared columns with pricked decoration, a cherub’s head atop the lintel, floral motif below, 132 x 82mm (cf. Kress 345 [fig. 293] and note). The whole with traces of original gilding, reverse with old solder mark (where once attached to backing), fine and rare (£120-150)
