Lieutenant Eric Mortimore was reported missing, believed killed, on 8 June 1944, two days after the D-Day landings. He was married to Miss Molly Coysh of Teignmouth, Devon, and had a little girl aged 5 years. He joined the Royal Engineers as a Private in 1940, worked his way up to Sergeant and was offered a commission in 1942. He is commemorated by name on the Bayeux Memorial.
