Irvine William Bagot Harte was first commissioned into the 3rd Battalion, Royal Lancaster Regiment on 28 May 1901. He served in South Africa with this unit from August 1901 to May 1902 (Queen’s Medal with 5 clasps). He transferred to the 6th Gurkhas in January 1903 and became Lieutenant in September 1904. Served in the operations in the Zakka Khel country on the North West Frontier in 1908 (Medal with clasp). He was promoted to Captain in February 1911 and was killed in action as a Major with the 2nd/6th Gurkhas on 21 June 1917. He is commemorated on the Delhi Memorial (India Gate).
