D.S.M. London Gazette 3 December 1940: James Henry Davidson, C.P.O. ‘For courage and resource during successful patrols by H.M. Submarines.’
Seedies roll states that the award was for an attack by H.M. Submarine H-49 on a large enemy convoy on 16 September 1940. Chief Petty Officer Davidson was killed on 18 October 1940 when H-49 was sunk near Terschelling by the German submarine-chasers UJ-116 and UJ-118 under Lt-Cdr. Kaden. Sold with copies of the official Patrol Report.
