J. Pyrah, a turner from Bradford, Yorkshire, enlisted 8 Sept 1914. Served in Gallipoli with Hood Battalion, wounded in action 2 May 1915 (GSW to chest severe) and evacuated to hospital in Malta and then to UK. Returned to Hood Battalion and served in France, wounded 9 Oct 1917 (Gun shot wound to arm) and to Base Depot for treatment. Rejoined Battalion 21 June 1918.
