Charles Compton William Cavendish, KCB, PC, 3rd Baron Chesham (1850-1907); educ. Eton; joined the Coldstream Guards, 1870, then 10th Hussars, 1873 and 16th Lancers, 1878, retiring from the Army in 1879. Later recalled, he served in the Boer War where he was mentioned in despatches, and subsequently appointed Inspector-General of the Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa, 1901. In later years he served as Lord of the Bedchamber to the Prince of Wales, the future George V. First medal only illustrated
