2nd Lieutenant Frederick Arthur Arnold was born on 31.5.1885 at Hythe in Kent and was educated at the Saltwood and Hythe School. He enlisted in the 3/1st Kent Cyclist Battalion in December 1915 and served with them until August 1916 when he transferred to the 11th Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment. He was commissioned into the 6th battalion Royal West Kent Regiment on 26.6.1918. He was mortally wounded during the clearing of ‘Billy Montigny’, near Lens, on 11.10.1918, and died of his wounds two days later. He was buried in Houchin British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
