Sergeant William Fred Noble was qualified as Air Gunner and posted to No. 166 Squadron (Lancasters). He took part in operations from 20 July, 1944, including raids against Wizernes, Kiel, Le Havre, and a number of Flying Bomb sites, U-Boat pens and railway targets in France. He failed to return from a mine laying operation in Stertin Bay on 29 August, 1944 and was reported missing, presumed killed.
