A rare Royal Household Badge for a Lady of the Bedchamber to Her Majesty Queen Alexandra worn by Winifred, Lady Hardinge of Penshurst
Badge of a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Alexandra, gold and enamel cross of the Dannebrog, on each arm the crowned reversed cypher ‘A’ in gold, superimposed with the letter ‘A’ crossed and reversed and set with diamonds, the whole surmounted by a gold and enamel crown set with diamonds in the arches, fleur-de-lis and cross patee, and with diamond-set ribbons flowing from the base to the upper points of the lateral arms of the cross, the base itself set with emeralds, rubies and a sapphire, the badge suspended from a diamond-set gold loop, 95mm x 50mm including suspension loop, complete with original ribbon bow attached to its Rowland & Fraser, Regent Street silver brooch pin with two gold safety chains, a very minor flake to red enamel border of one arm of cross, otherwise nearly extremely fine and of the highest rarity £9000-12000

Lady Hardinge was appointed Extra Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Alexandra in 1913, having previously served as a Woman of the Bedchamber from 1901. A similar badge, worn by The Hon. Charlotte Knollys, was sold by Spink in June 1989 (£11,000).
