Ralph Herbert Allan Wright was born in 1873 and enlisted in 1888 with the Wiltshire Regiment, transferring to the 2nd Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in 1894 and the Commissariat and Transport Department in 1895. He served in operations in the Mahmund country, in the Bara Valley and Waran Valley 1897-98; in China 1900 and in Tibet 1903-04, at Niani, 26 June 1904 and operations in and around Gyantse, May - June 1904. Further service followed on the N.W. Frontier of India in 1908 with operations in the Zakka Khel country. For operations in Abor 1911-12, he was mentioned in despatches and was promoted Assistant Commissary with the Honorary rank of Lieutenant in the Supply and Transport Corps.
With the onset of the Great War, he served in Mesopotamia and was twice mentioned in despatches. In 1919 he was promoted Deputy Commissary with the rank of Captain and was awarded the M.B.E. in 1924.
