When the Battery was heavily shelled whilst firing an S.O.S. and the C.O. was wounded, this officer took over command of the battery and kept all guns in action in spite of heavy casualties and being wounded himself. His courage and coolness during a difficult situation undoubtably enabled the S.O.S. barrage to be executed at a critical period.’
