James Smart Campbell was born in and enlisted at Edinburgh. Serving with the 6th Battalion Royal Scots, he entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 5 November 1914. He died of wounds on 25 May 1915, aged 34 years. He was buried in the Wimereux Communal Cemetery.
