D.C.M. London Gazette 1 April 1915. ‘For gallant conduct at Missy Bridge on 14th September 1914, in carrying ammunition to the firing line under a heavy fire. On a previous occasion he rescued three wounded men whilst under fire.’
Gavin Turner was born in and enlisted at Paisley, Renfrewshire. Serving with the 2nd Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers, he entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 15 August 1914. Entitled to the clasp to the 1914 Star. His several acts of bravery during 1914 culminated with the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal. He died of wounds on 26 April 1915 aged 27 years and was buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
