Cape Mounted Rifles, a fine original water colour heightened with white by CCP Lawson, executed for the late Major G Tylden to illustrate an article on the corps as published in the SAHR’s ‘Journal’; an officer is depicted in full dress wearing the 1840 pattern light dragoon shako complete with cap lines chin chains and cocks feather plume, the pouch belt with silvered guard chains and pricker plate, the pelisse is slung and the distinctive crimson and gold girdle is evident, the 1822 pattern triple bar light cavalry sword is drawn, his charger wears a throat plume and ornamented harness, the shabraque of black lambswool is edged in vandyked red cloth; mounted troopers in round foraging caps and armed with carbines appear in the background; mounted and in a near plain oak frame, excellent condition £100-150
