William Fagg was born in Dover in 1832 and attested for the 50th Regiment of Foot in his home town on 24 October 1849. A habitual offender, he served during the Crimean campaign and was discharged in consequence of a hernia on 14 April 1858, being no longer fit to carry out the duties of a soldier.
