Alan Walter Dolby was born on 29 April 1898. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Berkshire Regiment, from Royal Military College, 7 April 1916; Lieutenant, 7 October 1917. Served in France and Belgium, 4 June 1917 to 1 April 1918, gassed and invalided. Adjutant, 1st Battalion, 3 February to 23 March, 1918; Captain 21 January 1925; retired 1935.
