Anne Eldred, 1678, a cast hollow silver memorial medal, unsigned, armorial shield of the Eldred family, anne the wife of io eldred esq died march the 31st 1678, aged 72, rev.,veiled female figure seated in mourning, holding skull and leaning on a pedestal bearing an urn, a wise woman buildeth her house, 52mm, 33.85g (MI 571/241). Fields chased and with small piercing at top, good very fine and very rare £400-£500

The manufacture of hollow silver medals at this period was very much a Dutch speciality and it is likely that this medal was made in the Netherlands. Anne Eldred (1606-78) was married to John Eldred who died in 1682.
