A fine Great War M.C. group of nine awarded to Captain F. L. Reeves, 1st Life Guards, late Trumpeter in the Grenadier Guards and subsequently Flight Lieutenant, Royal Air Force

Military Cross, G.V.R.; 1914-15 Star (Lieut., 1-L. Gds.); British War and Victory Medals (Capt.); 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; Defence and War Medals; Coronation 1902, bronze, mounted Court style as worn, together with original printed certificate of congratulations from General Plumer for the M.C., and printed Army Orders, dated 13 May 1918, announcing various Immediate Awards including his, very fine and better (9) £600-700

M.C. London Gazette 26 July 1918: Lt. (A/Capt.) Frederick Layard Reeves, L. Gds. Spec. Res. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On three occasions when the situation was obscure this officer went out under heavy hostile shell fire for several hours and brought back valuable information. On one occasion he succeeded in rallying some 50 men of various units and leading them forward.’

Frederick Layard Reeves served as a Trunpeter in the Grenadier Guards at the time of the Coronation of King Edward VII and was awarded the bronze Coronation medal. He was commissioned into the Ceylon Mounted Rifles on 10 July 1915 and served with the 1st Life Guards in France during the Great War. At the time of winning his M.C. he was acting Captain, attached to the Royal Highlanders. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Air Force, being commissioned Flying Officer on 1 October 1942, and left the service in July 1946 with the rank of Flight Lieutenant.
