D.C.M. London Gazette 11 March 1916: ‘For conspicuous gallantry. Serjeant Cresswell made the greatest possible use of his machine gun. The parapet was twice blown in and rebuilt, and he continued with great coolness and bravery to serve his gun with good effect.’
