Walter J. Darling was born in Semley, Salisbury, Wiltshire. A Groom by occupation, he attested for short service with the Imperial Yeomanry on 24 January 1901, aged 22 years, 11 months. He served in the 17th Company (Ayrshire), 6th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa. He was discharged at his own request on 27 June 1902. Sold with copied service papers.
