Formerly a Private in the 10th (Scottish Battalion) Liverpool Regiment, V. Deacon was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the A.S.C. on 17 December 1913. Promoted to Lieutenant in the Welsh Border Mounted Brigade A.S.C. on 24 October 1914 and was promoted to Captain on 20 March 1915. Seconded to the 10th Battalion London Regiment, July-September 1918. Captain Deacon relinquished his commission but retained his rank on 30 September 1921.
