Arthur Charles Gaye was born at Minehead, Somerset on 21 September 1837. Studying surgery, he gained the M.R.C.S. and L.S.A. He was appointed an Assistant Surgeon on the Staff in October 1859 and was with the 1st Battalion 4th Foot in November 1860 and the Royal Artillery in November 1864. He was promoted to Surgeon in the Army Medical Department in October 1859 and Surgeon-Major in February 1875. As such, he served in the Perak, Malaya Expedition of 1875 under Major-General Colborne and was present at the capture of Kinta. For his services he received the medal and clasp and was metioned in despatches. He then served with the Southern Afghanistan Field Force under Major-General Phayre in 1880, for which he was awarded the medal. Promoted to Brigade Surgeon, afterwards Brigade Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in November 1885, he attained the rank of Surgeon Colonel in September 1891. Colonel Gaye died at Bangalore on 20 April 1894. Sold with some copied research.
