The recipient is confirmed on the published roll for “Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919” and “Waziristan 1919-21” and would appear to be one of around 50 Royal Air Force personnel who qualified for the same combination of clasps.
Alfred William Ivey, who was born in July 1887, enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in November 1914 and was embarked for France in the following month, where he served until May 1915. Having then been advanced to Sergeant in June 1916, he was embarked for Egypt at the end of 1917, and thence for India, where, as stated above, he was present in the Afghanistan and Waziristan operations, services that won him a “mention” (London Gazette 20 December 1920 refers). He was discharged in December 1919.
