Charles Sutherland was born in Aberdeen on 29 November 1921. A Lorry Driver by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Scots in November 1937 and was transferred to the Royal Scots Greys in November 1938. He served overseas from 31 May 1939, serving in Egypt, North Africa, Italt and N.W. Europe. He took and qualified in a Wireless Telegraphist course in Abbassia, Egypt, 31 May-19 June 1943. In February 1944 he posted home and transferred from the Royal Armoured Corps to the Royal Army Service Corps. Qualifying in a Storekeeper Course in April 1944, October 1948 and again in 1951, he served with the army of occupation in Germany, 1945-48. Sold with a copied colour photograph of the recipient, two metal and one cloth Royal Scots Greys badges, a Royal Scots Greys wooden shield plaque, a copied birth certificate and some service details.
