Gerry Clark was born in East Ham in 1890 and was an Able Seaman in the Royal Navy during the Great War. He served aboard a British warship involved in the sinking of the German light cruiser Mainz during the battle of Heligoland Bight, 28 August 1914. He died in leigh, Essex in 1968. Sold with original photograph of the recipient; four postcard photographs - one inscribed, ‘The Sinking of the Mainz’; three other photographs; a page from a publication depicting the sinking of the Mainz and the rescue of her crew, and a recent newspaper cutting re.
