Gerry Clark was born in East Ham in 1890 and was an Able Seaman in the Royal Navy during the Great War. He served aboard a British warship involved in the sinking of the German light cruiser Mainz during the battle of Heligoland Bight, 28 August 1914. He died in leigh, Essex in 1968.
