Germany, 70th Birthday of Hans von Seeckt, 1936, a uniface cast light bronze medal, unsigned, facing bust, 94mm. About extremely fine, very rare (£50-70)

Hans von Seeckt (1866-1936), German general, rebuilt the German army after World War I, in which he had led troops in Poland, Turkey and the Balkans. As Reichswehrminister from 1920 to 1926, he established an effective fighting force, partly by violating terms of the Treaty of Versailles. He secretly trained officers beyond their official responsibilities and established illegal military groups outside the formal army. Seeckt served in the Reichstag from 1930-32, and as military adviser to China’s Chiang Kai-shek from 1934-35
