Defence of Jellalabad 1842, Mural Crown (Pt. Wm. Thomas, XIII P.A.L.I.), pierced with ring a straight bar suspension, contemporary engraved naming, minor edge bruising, contact marks, about very fine £600-700

William Thomas was born in the Parish of Westbury in Gloucestershire in 1809. He attested for the 13th Foot at Bristol on 17 October 1825, aged 16 years. He served as a Private for some 16 years in India and a further 6 in the U.K, being discharged in October 1851. During his period of service he was court martialled six times: 1829-Desertion-imprisoned 60 days; 1834-Drunk and Disobedient-imprisoned 24 days; 1835/36-Disgraceful Conduct-confined 25 days and imprisoned 120 days; 1848-Absence and Insubordination-imprisoned 40 days; 1848-Habitual Drunkenness-42 days with hard labour; 1850-Absence and Drunkenness-imprisoned 30 days. Not surprisingly his overall conduct was described as ‘Indifferent’. Sold with copied service papers and copied research.
