Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 2 clasps, Alexandria 11th July, Suakin 1884 (W. H. M. Hollow, A.B., H.M.S. Orion) slight contact marks, otherwise nearly extremely fine £250-300

William Henry Matthew Hollow was born in Cornwall. A Labourer by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on Fisguard in September 1875. He was advanced to Boy 1st Class on Ganges in October 1876 and Ordinary Seaman in February 1878 when on Achilles. He attained the rank of Able Seaman when on the Raleigh in June 1880 and served on the Orion, June 1882-May 1883 and Cygnet, May 1883-May 1885. Able Seaman Hollow died of disease on 27 May 1885 whilst serving on the Cygnet. His medal was sent to his widow, Elizabeth Hollow. Sold with copied service paper and muster roll extracts.
