Japan, Red Cross Medal, silver; War Commemorative Medal, obv. a bomber overflying New Guinea and other islands off the N. Australian coast, rev. the number ‘101’ below Japanese characters, slight edge bruising, scarce; together with a W.W.2 Japanese aviator’s linen Hachimaki or head-band, inscribed, ‘Hi Sho’ and named to ‘Harada Chui’, this last in good condition; medals very fine and better (3) £100-140

Ex Bonham’s 15 December 1999, lot 41, where it was stated by the vendor that the items had been ‘taken from a Japanese prisoner-of-war at the Surabaya Camp in Java in 1946’.
