Arthur James Lamport was born on 28 November 1883. Living at 77 Westwood Road, Southampton, he attested as a Private in the Hants Carabiniers Yeomanry on 5 October 1914. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 12th Battalion Welsh Regiment on 2 May 1915 and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 10 October 1915. Appointed a Temporary Lieutenant in January 1916, he served as O.C. 84th M.G. Company in Salonika, May-August 1916 but by October he had been invalided to Britain suffering from dysentry and malaria. Recovering, he returned to active service in France/Flanders with the Machine Gun Corps. He was reported missing on 12 April 1918 and was later confirmed as a prisoner-of-war of the Germans. At the end of the war he was repatriated, arriving in Hull on 14 December 1918. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
