Seven: Major H. J. Ring, Indian Army

British War and Victory Medals (Lieut.); General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Iraq (Lieut.); Delhi Durbar, silver; Jubilee 1935; Volunteer Force Long Service (India & the Colonies), E.VII.R. (Sergt., Simla Voltr. Rifles), mounted as worn; together with another medal, inscribed, ‘S.V.R., 1909-10’ and ‘Pay Mas. H. Ring’, 38mm., bronze; also with a mounted set of five miniature dress medals similar to the set above but lacking Jubilee and Vol. L.S. is a G.V.R. issue, good very fine (12) £180-220

Harry James Ring was born on 19 April 1876. He entered service with the Simla Volunteer Rifles in 1894, for which he was later awarded the Volunteer Force Long Service Medal. On 24 August 1917 he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Indian Army Reserve of Officers and on 1 September was promoted to Temporary Lieutenant. He served in France/Flanders, 1 November 1917-1 August 1918. The Indian Army List of April 1918 shows him as on the strength of the 77th (Kumaon) Company, Indian Labour Company. Promoted to Lieutenant on 24 August 1918; he served in Mesopotamia, 11-31 October 1918 and then in Iraq, 1919-20; shown to be serving in the Indian Labour Corps during 1920. On 27 November 1926 he attained the rank of Major in the Indian Army Reserve of Officers. Major Ring relinquished his commission in 1933. Sold with copied photograph and research.
