D.C.M. London Gazette 16 August 1917. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his platoon to his objective with great coolness and courage, rallying men of other companies who were badly shaken by machine gun fire, and materially assisted the capture of the position. He afterwards dug and garrisoned a trench, which he held for four days in spite of constant heavy artillery fire setting a splendid example to the men under most trying conditions’.

Cecil Charles Bowers lived at Mortlake and enlisted at Hammersmith. Serving with the 1st/7th Battalion London Regiment, he was killed in action on 2 December 1917, aged 43 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louveral. He was the husband of Georgina Bowers of 9 Grove Road, Barnes, London. Sold with some copied research.
