British Empire Medal, (Military) G.VI.R., 1st issue (882575 Sgt. Florence M. Watson, W.A.A.F.), on bow ribbon; Defence and War Medals, these unnamed, nearly extremely fine (3) £160-200
B.E.M. London Gazette 1 January 1943.
Recommendation reads, ‘Sergeant Watson has been employed at R.A.F. Station, Gosport on disciplinary duties as senior W.A.A.F. n.c.o. since the war commenced. She has performed her duties in an exemplary manner gaining the admiration and respect not only of the airwomen but of the Royal Air Force as well. Throughout many changes, the W.A.A.F. section has worked smoothly as a result of Sergeant Watson’s tireless devotion to duty. The W.A.A.F. quarters, for which she is entirely responsible, are a model for anyone to see. When the station was blitzed by the enemy, her coolness, efficiency and selfless behaviour were an example to all, and the fact that the airwomen did not suffer from nerves or in any other way, is largely due to Sergeant Watson’s example’.
