Vigors Alcock, Esqr., For the Best Poultry, 1855), 43mm. Extremely fine, obverse most attractively toned, rare (£100-150)

Edward Vigors Alcock, barrister, 29 Upper Pembroke street, Dublin; a renowned Irish cricketer, he was secretary of the Dublin-based Phoenix Cricket Club from 1830 to 1852. He was a prime mover in the Carlow Cricket Club, established by 1831, whose grounds were at Bennekerry. Alcock is shown in the 1871 Land Returns as owning 570 acres at Ballynoe, co Carlow
