18th Century, Cashiobury, 1725, jetons (2), in silver and copper, arms of the Earl of Essex with supporters, rev. jetton de cashiobury, both 32mm (MI II, 464/77; cf. Baldwin Auction 38, 979) [2]. About very fine and better but copper specimen brushed, both rare (£80-100)
Silver jeton only illustrated. Cassiobury House, Watford, family seat of the earls of Essex until 1922, was demolished in 1927. The jetons were made for William Capell, 3rd Earl (1697-1743)
