Joseph Henry Cartwright (1855-1934), b. Brierly Hill, Staffordshire, emigrated to South Africa c. 1880, railway contractor and builder; his tokens were used in the area between Saldanha Bay and Knysna, but his extant stock of them was washed into the Liesbeeck River during a flood in 1912
