Jamaica, Doubloon (valued at Five Pounds, authorised November 1758), a Peru, Ferdinand VI, 8 Escudos, 1759jm, Lima, countermarked in the centre of both sides with gr floriate, in relief, within a circular indent, 26.62g (Prid. 1; Gordon 1/d, this coin not listed; KM. 11.4, this specimen listed; F 1), Coin and countermarks very fine with red tone, extremely rare, only about 10 specimens recorded (£15,000-20,000)

The Jamaica Act of 18 November 1758 provided for all the milled coins on the island, in gold and silver, to be brought in to a committee for countermarking. The late Ralph Gordon, in his West Indies Countermarked Gold Coins, 1987, recorded six specimens of the doubloon, although at that time he was unaware of the present piece, a second known coin of Lima dated 1759 (the first, from the Glendining Auction of 16-17 June 1937, lot 415, is in inferior condition)
