The recommendation made on 7 October 1918 by Brigadier-Commanding 2nd Brigade R.A.F. in respect of 19281 Corporal Mechanic John Simmons (sic) Staffiere, 70th Sqn. R.A.F., states: ‘Has shown great ability and enterprise in salving machines under shell fire, he has done much to improve the morale and discipline of his Squadron.’ (TNA Air 1/1157)
