Albert Gadsden Bird was born in Westminster, London, on 13 October 1893. A Page by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 23 August 1910, being advanced to Boy 1st Class on November the same year. He was promoted to Ordinary Seaman on the Dreadnought in October 1913 and advanced to Able Seaman on the same ship in February 1913. He was promoted to Leading Seaman in September 1917 and Petty Officer in October 1919. During the war he served on Birmingham, Crusader and Nugent. He was awarded the Royal Navy L.S. & G.C. in 1927 when serving on Curlew. For two years from April 1929 he was on loan to the Royal Australian Navy. Bird was later in Canada where he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He was appointed a Gunner, R.C.N. on 1 November 1942 and later a Lieutenant, R.C.N. on 1 November 1948. Sold with copied research.
