Leslie Charles Sanders was born on 6 July 1908 and enlisted at Plymouth on 5 September 1922 as a Boy Soldier in the Royal Artillery. He was advanced to Lance Bombardier in 1929 and Bombardier in 1932 while serving in India with the 9th Field Regiment. He was then posted to 206 Training Brigade and promoted to Sergeant Artificer. On 27 June 1941 he was commissioned into the Royal Artillery but then transferred to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He served in the Middle East and Sudan and was attached to the Arab Legion. He retired from the Army on 6 July 1961. In addition to the above he was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. in September 1941.
