Shaw, a native of Denton, Manchester, landed with his regiment on D-Day and was wounded in the face, neck and shoulders when his tank was hit in the fighting around Caen. He was evacuated to the U.K. but rejoined his unit in Germany before the War’s end; the regimental journal confirms that he was wounded in the period June 1944 to May 1945.
