Terence Thomas joined the Royal Marine Artillery on 30 July 1913 and served with them throughout and after the Great War. He was awarded the Royal Navy L.S. & G.C. in 1928. Thomas then served in the Territorial Army. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant (Quartermaster) in the Royal Artillery (T.A.) Special List, L.A.A. Units, on 27 February 1939. He was promoted to Acting Captain on 26 January 1942, being appointed Adjutant on the same day. He was advanced to Temporary Captain in April 1942, War Substantive Captain in November 1942, and Captain (Q.M.) in April 1945. On 1 December 1946 Thomas was appointed a Captain, General List, Short Service Commission, in the Regular Army; he was promoted to Major (Q.M.) on 27 February 1948. He relinquished his commission on 1 December 1949 and was granted the Honorary rank of Major. Major Thomas was awarded the Efficiency Decoration by the London Gazette of 21 April 1950.
