Charles F. Tate, serving as a B.Q.M.S. with the 7th London Brigade R.F.A. (T.F.), was awarded the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal by A.O. 7 of January 1909. During the Great War he served as B.Q.M.S. in the R.F.A. and later as C.Q.M.S. in the Labour Corps. He entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 20 March 1915. Tate was awarded the clasp to his T.F.E.M. by Army Order 22 of February 1933.
