George Van Jagger joined the Territorial Army before the war, serving in the Loyal Regiment. He was awarded the Efficiency Medal, notified in List No. 1 of April 1946, at which time he was serving in the Manchester Regiment. His medal was replaced in 1956. At the end of the war Jagger was granted a Regular Army Emergency Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Pioneer Corps and was subsequently advanced to Lieutenant. In January 1948 he was transferred to the Territorial Army and was appointed a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery (T.A.). In 1952 he transferred to the T.A.R.O. of the R.A. In July 1953 he was transferred to the Army Emergency Reserve of Officers, and was appointed a Lieutenant in the Royal Pioneer Corps, A.E.R.O., being advanced to Acting Captain in February 1956. In the rank of Lieutenant (Acting Captain), Jagger was awarded the Army Emergency Reserve Decoration, the award being published in the London Gazette of 29 June 1956. Jagger was promoted to Captain, R.P.C., A.E.R.O., on 27 August 1956. In 1961 he was transferred as a Captain to the R.P.C., Regular Army Reserve of Officers.
